19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 titles have been earned on hardcourt
A resurgent Daniil Medvedev claimed his initial trophy for over two years with victory over opponent Moutet in the competition championship match.
Medvedev, a former world number one, has had a torrid period, managing just one win at the big events and undergoing a meltdown at the American major.
Medvedev's varied form on the ATP Tour - and issues with his service game in especial - resulted in him dropping out of the elite rankings and ultimately separating with long-term mentor Cervara.
Presently working with Johansson and Goetzke, the tennis star has steadily advanced in the recent weeks - culminating in a tightly fought competitive triumph over Frenchman Moutet.
It is his maiden title after the Rome competition and maiden on a hardcourt since spring of that year.
Victory also means he has achieved twenty-one championships at twenty-one distinct competitions.
"For the first time I have attended a tournament with my both daughters at once, so to win a title is especially meaningful," stated ranked player the champion.
"This title is in honour of my child her name, because the first title I got when my older daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."
Medvedev, the former major winner, had been defeated in his past six finals, comprising in Halle in the past months.
The player's counter-punching approach and regular outbursts on the playing surface had led commentators to doubt if his skill to play at the top level was over.
However the athlete has made changes in recent weeks, striving to advance forward and compete aggressively, backed up by an improved serve.
Medvedev recovered from a deficit in the initial set against the difficult Moutet, winning four of the concluding five games to take the lead.
The pair swapped break points in the middle set before Moutet, attempting for his initial tour title, took control to create a final set.
The opponent rescued 4 initial chances in a close third set before the Russian secured a break to fifteen to secure the win.
Suitably, Medvedev secured the title with a point at the front of the court, with his opponent incapable to handle a return after over two and a half hours.
